The online magazine Talking Shorts is responding spontaneously to the pandemic with an online festival: starting on 16 March, Talking Shorts will present a weekly programme of seven short films on the subject of “dystopia”, which have been suggested by quarantined short film fans from all over the world. The audience can vote for their favourite film.
But My Darling Quarantine Short Film Festival is more than just another online film offer. The initiator, Enrico Vannuci, has set up a GoFundMe page where you can make donations for people affected by the pandemic.
50% of the proceeds will go to Medecins Sans Frontiers, who are currently working to prevent a major COVID-19 outbreak among the 42,000 asylum seekers trapped on the Greek islands.
The other 50% will go to those in the cultural sector who are most affected by the stagnation of public life, especially those who are self-employed and do not receive institutional funding. To this end, Talking Shorts wants to work with a foundation that can distribute the money fairly.
Talking Shorts is a blog run by Enrico Vannuci, among others, who is currently under quarantine in his home country Italy himself.
