Experience with online festivals – individual experience reports

Report

Not only has the film festival world turned around itself several times since the spring and still hasn’t come to a standstill. The Corona pandemic has created new festival models and variations in a very short time. At shortfilm.de, Reinhard Wolf has already looked at the development of international film festivals in regular intervals in the four-part article series “Waiting for the Wave”.

Now we would like to give the filmmakers who are directly affected by the situation a chance to have their say. All in all, we examine the topic from various individual perspectives:

Madeleine Bernstorff, member of the selection committee of the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, contacted the filmmakers of this year’s edition after the online festival and asked them about their experiences.

Anne Isensee, animation filmmaker from Berlin, takes us on a journey through the past festival spring – from the last real film festival to the world of virtual offerings.

We also spoke to Caroline Hamann, animation filmmaker from Munich, about her experiences of festivals in times of pandemic.

Of course, these are only a few selected voices, but they can be taken as examples for the current situation of filmmakers.
