The last issue of the German MEDIA-Info (02/06) reported in detail on European short film promotion activities in the context of festival funding. The review of the year in funding notes that, »In 2005, a total of 115 festivals received grants totalling 2,676,375 euros. Ten German festivals received 251,000 euros in support. Of this amount, 166,500 euros went to six short film festivals, making up a sizeable 66% of available German funding.«
A total of 22 European short film festivals in MEDIA programme member states received financial support. Among these were the German festivals in Hamburg, Cologne, Berlin, Dresden and Ludwigsburg.
The article also goes into detail on the criteria that must be met for a festival to be eligible for funding – although no response is made to the criticism of these guidelines, recently voiced, for example, by the Short Film Festival Oberhausen (see also our News 02/01 2006).
